It was a light turnout this Memorial Day weekend, not unexpectedly. For many this is a vacation weekend, and also Chuck was probably not the only regular player to attend the Memorial Day Classic tournament going on in Ontario. Here at the club 18 players competed for $320 worth of prizes, and it was a strong field. Here they are in pre-event rating order:
4 Masters: Cyrus Lakdawala, Kyron Griffith, Bruce Baker, Peter Graves
5 Experts: Nikolay Arutyunov, Peter Hodges, Ben Barquin, Lenny Sussman, Elkaei Rivera
3 Class A: Jeff Turner, Buddy Morris, Jason Arbeiter
4 Class B: Gurveer Singh, Jay Choi, Michelangelo Barozzi, David Narevsky
2 Class E: David Terr, Carol Paden
We used a 2 point McMahon pairing system with M=2, X/A=1, < A=0
There was a bit of a stir during Round 2 when a parade of hundreds of protesters passed loudly by with drums and cries on 6th avenue as part of the March Against Monsanto. Games continued with just a little bit of gawking mostly by those not on move... and the director.
Thank you to Ross Blum for filling in as a house player during Round 1.
