May day! May day! Sunday May 1st Fund raising tournament

With copious help from Chuck, and the generous sponsorship of Chess.com and ChessTempo.com, I'm setting up a one day tournament to raise funds for the non-profit organization Jeans 4 Justice. Jeans 4 Justice is dedicated to bringing lessons of sexual violence prevention to young people in creative ways, which is a cause that is close to my heart.

This will be a 4 round tournament with time control G/60, so a bit more time than the Saturday Gambitos. First round will start at 9:45a. Entry fee will be $20, and I intend to have an Open and Reserve section. Tentatively, reserve will be U1700, but this may change depending on the sign-ups. There will also be an unrated section open to non-USCF members for an $8 entry fee, so if you know people who might want to participate in their first tournament but haven't been ready to sign up for USCF, please invite them! Anyone rated above 1200 can not participate in the unrated section. There will be a cash prize fund for the rated sections, but there will also be some other great prizes for each section including premium memberships to Chess.com and ChessTempo.com!

We will also be raffling off some prizes throughout the day, including a tournament chess set with bag and digital clock, books, T-shirts, and more. If you have any chess gear that you'd like to donate to include in the raffle, please contact me.

So save the date & spread the word: Sunday, May 1st. 9:45a. Be there to play some chess, have fun, and support a good cause.

If you'd like to make a separate donation to this cause, please visit my fundraising page: https://www.stayclassy.org/member/fundraising?fcid=3312

  1. I am planning to come to help Eliza with the Fund Raising Tournament. I will NOT be playing in it though. (Irina).

  2. In order to not conflict with Easter Sunday, the new tournament date is May 1st! Please update your calendars. :)

  4. I like the slightly longer time control at G/60. It may be a good idea to specify what the prizes would be.
