Markowski Open Rd 2

Alina Markowski Open  - Round 2 of 7    1/13/10    7 PM   

Rounds 1 through 7 of the Markowski are every Wednesday night on 1/06, 1/13, 1/20, 1/27, 2/03, 2/10 and 2/17. This is the qualifier for the Club Championship (16 players, 4 already seeded in) and this event also qualifies 16 players for the Reserve Championship, which is for players rated U1800. A Women's Championship will also start on 2/24.

Two byes are available if requested in time (before 6:30 PM the night of the round, please call the club phone at 619-239-7166, or email chucnglo@aol.com before 4:00 PM Wednesday), but last round byes must be requested before the start of round 2. Entry Fee is $25, and everyone must renew their San Diego Chess Club membership if they haven't done so already. Club Membership runs on a calendar year basis, good from 1/01/10 to 12/31/10. Dues are $60 a year, $48 for seniors or for active mililtary, $30 for juniors and players crossing the border from Mexico. Family memberships are $120. There are generous cash prizes throughout the year, so you will have plenty of chances to win that money back and hopefully plenty more.

Total Players so far: 85   We need 8 more players to break the record of 92 made in 2008. We had "only" 90 last year. Here are some of the players most likely to join that I can think of right now, and I think all of them played in our last event, the Class Championships:

The 12 players joining us in round 2 are George Zeigler, Matt Souza, Jason Qu, Pejman Sagart, Hector Gonzalez, Santiago Rubio-Fernaz, Chris Wonnell and the Murra family 5 (Fawsi Jose & Maria, Fawsi Jr, Mayra and Rocio). Jerry Qu decided not to play in this event, so we lost one there, but we still doing pretty good.
