Jerry Soelberg Open Rd 1

Six rounds, July 1- August 5     Round 1  July 1st, 2009  7 PM

The 2nd annual Jerry Soelberg Open honors one of our most long standing active members. Jerry may be getting up there in years, but he still plays a mean game and is especially strong in the endgame. His current rating is 1733.

This event is a 6 round McMahon Swiss with Master and Experts starting with 4 bye points, Class A players with 3, Class B players with 2, Class C with 1 and D/E with 0. This ensures that you will play someone reasonably close to your own rating, at least in the first few rounds. As in all swiss events, the more games you win, the tougher and higher rated your opponents will be for the following rounds. There are also 2 byes available if needed, as long as you tell us in advance.       

Time control will be our standard 40/90, SD/60 with 5 second delay.

Please sign up online by emailing Chuck Ensey at chucnglo@aol.com You may play "up" a class only if you are reasonably close to the cutoff (30-50 points) or if you have demonstated a strong ability for that class in the past and are just down in rating temporarily. But remember, if you "play up" and get an "extra" bye point, then you are only eligible for the prizes in the class you are moving up too (or above).
