Here are the results from Rd 3:

Total # of players so far = 58, plus a few house players

Open Section (Masters, Experts, any Class A players who want to "play up"): 18 players so far

Board 1 Felix Villarreal (2) - Carl Wagner (2)  1/2-1/2

The battle for the lead was deferred with both masters settling for a draw after some exciting chess!

Here is the game courtesy of Dr. Carl Wagner with his annotations.

Bd 2  Mario Amodeo (2) - Fausto Robles (1 1/2)  1/2-1/2

Super Mario must be kicking himself for letting this opportunity slip.  With the two masters drawing on board one and fellow eXpert and co-leader  Eric Montany taking a bye.  Super Mario was a comfortable piece up against feisty Fausto Robles and with a little bit of care could/should/would chalk up the full point and take the sole lead after three rounds.  However, Super Mario proceeded haphazardly giving the never-say-die Fausto chances to salvage the game which to his credit, Fausto accomplished.

Fausto Robles, with this "save" could be the man of the hour.  Fausto made "history" in 2006 when he became the first "B"-rated player to qualify for the San Diego Chess Club Championship Finals.

Mario was gracious to submit this game for all of us to see!
