Here are the prize winners at the Southern California Open which had 253 players over the Labor Day weekend at the Sonesta LAX Airport Hotel, 6 rounds with 7 sections.
Open Section - 1st/2nd: IM Dionisio Aldama (5) and IM John Bryant (5), $1,800 each; 3rd/4th/BU2300 pool: David Gasparyan (4 1/2), Jayden Lee (4 1/2) and IM Jack Peters (4 1/2), $800 each; 5th/6th/2nd U2300: a 5 way tie for $166 each for players with 4 points: Karl Tolentino, Rishabh Chinni, Alex Wang, Gordon Xu, Angela Liu and Hursh Mehta.
U2200 Section - 1st Place: Solomon Ruddell (6), $1,400; 2nd Place: Carlos Varela (4 1/2), $800; 3rd/4th Place: Vishal Anil (4), Ashwin Damaraju (4), $250 each, Avik Sarkisharatounian (4), only $100 due to a provisional rating.
U2000 Section - 1st/2nd Place: Glenn Zhang (5) and Davit Gevorgyan (5), $1,000 each; 3rd/4th Place: 4-way tie for players with 4 1/2 points for $150 each: Taja Deljani, Elena Zhang, Alexander Kong and Arjun Sankar.
Under 1800 Section -1st Place: Dylan Gould (5 1/2): $1,300; 2nd/3rd Place: James Gould (4 1/2) and Bonnie He (4 1/2), $550 each; 4th Place: Gevorg Khachatrian (4), Luis Andrade (4), Elijah Tipton (4) and Ethan Huynh (4), $50 each.
U1600 Section - 1st/2nd Place: Charlie Sun (5) and Serhak Salik (5), $900 each; 3rd Place : Selina Chen (4 1/2), $300; 4th Place: Tejas Shyamsundar (4, provisional rating), $100; 5th Place: 4- way tie between players with 3 1/2 points for $25 each: Bryan Wat, Brandon You, Marc Bronshtein and Arthur Marcal Jr.. Also Nandha Rajesh (4 1/2), Best Unrated, Clock prize.
U1400 Section - 1st/2nd Place: Chris Noriega (5), $600; Marc Gabriel (5), $300 due to a provisional rating; 3rd/4th Place: Matthew Forbes (4 1/2) and Ishaan Reddy (4 1/2), $300 each.
U1200 Section: 1st Place: Jackson Scamehorn (5 1/2), $600; 2nd/3rd Place: Evan Jet Lew (5), $250 and Azike Nwankwo (5), $125 due to a provisional rating; Best Unrated: Kaveh Naficy (4 1/2), Clock prize; 4th Place: Vivaan Varma (4 1/2), Alexander Kalashnikov (4 1/2) and Ryan Xia (4 1/2), $75 each.
Total Prizes: $20,000, directed by Randall Hough (top two sections were FIDE rated) and Jim Harrell with assistance from the organizer Chuck Ensey. It will likely be rated by Wednesday night. Note: it was indeed rated Wednesday night, see www.uschess.org for updated ratings
