Gambito Open #622 on 8/24/13
This is the last Gambito of the month as next week, August 31st, is the Southern California Open, right here in San Diego at the Town and Country Hotel in Mission Valley. This event features a $20,000 Guaranteed Prize fund with a long classical time control of 40/120, SD/60, d/5. If you opt for the 2 day schedule then you have to play 3 fast games at G/60, d/5 on Sunday and then merge that evening at 5 PM with the other players for round 4 for a slow game. That is a brutal schedule, but about 15% of the players choose it, so we keep offering it to help boost attendance. Sign up for this event at scchess.com where you can also see the list of advance entries, so far we have 4 GMs, 5 IMs and 12 other masters.
I (Chuck Ensey) wasn't able to play today, but I stopped by at lunchtime. Another great turnout!
