Jeff Turner directed and wrote this post. Please note the recent news from the club site. Especially interesting to Gambito players is the site registration process to get email notifications for these blog updates and other events.

IM Dionisio Aldama recovered from a Round 1 loss to Varun Krishnan and won his last three games including a close one against IM Cyrus Lakdawala (who finished in 2nd Place). Varun’s victory over IM Dionisio and draw with IM Cyrus helped him lock in the U2400 prize. Ajay Krishnan (Varun’s little brother, +42 rating points) continues to tap these prize funds. In this event he defeated Daniel Zhu (another tough youngster), and Expert Venkat Iyer, while drawing with Chuck Ensey.

Jason Arbeiter (+23 rating points) demonstrated he is no longer a “B” player. He won “A” money partially by upsetting (possibly rusty) Expert Raoul Crisologo (good to see him back in the ring, by the way). Chuck Ensey was undefeated going into round four and then ran into Lenny Sussman. Chuck had the largest rating pickup of the day with 52. Welcome back to Daniel Cook. Both he and Gurveer Singh (who picked up 39 rating points) had strong performances. Also, there were good performances by David Narevsky (+25 rating points), Stepehn Zhu, and Fred Cleveland.

And thanks to Paul Agron for playing a house game to even out the pack in Round 2.

Also, thanks to everyone for playing in our soggy club. Usually there are just one or maybe two weeks a year where we are sweeping the water out of the tournament hall. Hopefully things will be drier next week. It's really great to see so many kids playing great chess against the adults. Please note rating point changes are estimates
