Gambito #544   12/10/11

$20 Entry Fee, 4 rounds G/40 d/5, Rounds at 10:30 AM, 12:15, 2:45 and 4:30 PM

Pretty good turnout of 30 players, a drop from the Super Gambito's 42 players, but still quite nice. I was pleasantly surprised. We had a few visitors to go along with the usual suspects.

Here are the players in rating order:

3 Masters: Cyrus Lakdawala, Bruce Baker and Peter Graves.

8 Experts: Craig Clawitter, Raoul Crisologo, Paul Agron, Aaron Wooten, Jamieson Pryor, Leonard Sussman, Ben Barquin and Elkaei Rivera (playing up).

6 Class A: Pejman Sagart, William Wijaya, Ernesto Alvarez, Jason Arbeiter, Matt Souza and Edgar Lopez.

8 Class B: Boris Polonsky, Hector Gonzalez, Chuck Ensey, Jay Choi, Tom Kuhn, Blake Borskey, Aaron Moman and Anthony Harbone.

2 Class C: Richard Gams and Eusy Ancheta.

3 Class D/E: Fred Cleveland, Patrick Edwards and Mark Negus

We used a 3 point McMahon pairing system where M/E=3, A=2, B=1 and C/D=0.  We also had a few house players: Bud Stamper (1 game), David Whitten (1 game) and Andrew Negus (2 games).

Cyrus won all four games as he is wont to do after a slightly sub-par performance last week. Jamieson Pryor upset Bruce Baker in round 1 and Bruce then bowed out as he usually does after a first round loss. Graves lost to Cy, beat Barquin, drew with Rivera and beat Clawitter. Jamieson lost to Cy, but then beat Agron and drew with Wooten. Aaron Wooten had taken a bye and then drew with Crisologo and beat Sussman before his last round draw with Jamieson.

This event is now rated, and there were some pretty big rating gains: +73 for Jay Choi to 1784, +55 for William Wijaya to 1917, +49 for Matt Souza to 1864, +33 for Elkaei Rivera to 1978 and +33 for Jamieson Pryor to 2095.

Here are the Prize winners:

First Place: Cyrus Lakdawala (7), $100

Second Place: Peter Graves (5 1/2), $56  BU2400: Jamieson Pryor (5 1/2), $56

BU2200: Elkaei Rivera (5 1/2) and Aaron Wooten (5 1/2), $56 each

BU2000: William Wijaya (5) and Matt Souza (5), $37 each

BU1800: Jay Choi (4 1/2), $75

BU1600: Eusy Ancheta (3), $50

BU1400: Fred Cleveland (2), $25

Total Prizes $550
