Gambito 242 - Special 5 Round Super Gambito on October 1st, 2005

Many of the players said this was one of the best Gambitos ever. Thanks to our newly acquired refrigerator we were able to supply food during the lunch break. Thanks to Chris for firing up those tasty burgers and hot dogs on the barbeque. We plan to repeat this format on February 4, 2006, so save that date!  See main page for more details. 

[Note:  Julian Landaw (USCF expert) drew his last round game with IM Cyrus Lakdawala, defending the ending R vs R+B for 40-50 moves with little time on his clock except the 5-sec delay. This is the highest degree of difficulty.  -- baker]

James "The Brilliant" Mahooti won his game against NM Joe Hanley in the last round, which allowed him to win the BU2000 prize, but more importantly, pushed him over 2000 for the first time! Congratulations, that is quite an achievement, James, your hard work has finally paid off!
