'07 Finals Rd 4

Results & Games for Round 4 of The Championships & Lasker Open on 3/14/07

See Pairings Page for tentative matches for next week

OK, cool, all the games in both Championship sections are now posted here, except for Fawsi Jr's game with house player Roger Dooc. I may still add a  few others from the Lasker Open. If you played a really good one, then you can send it to chucnglo@aol.com    Thanks!

Club Championship

Bd 1  John Funderburg - Rick Aeria  1/2-1/2   See Cyrus Annotates

Bd 2  Bruce Baker - Marc Duesterwald  0-1

For superficial analysis by a Class B player (Chuck Ensey), click on the names above. For deeper analysis by an International Master, see Cyrus Annotates

Bd 3  Jim Humphrey - Ron Bruno  0-1

Bd 4  Brad Salz - Dimitry Kishinevsky  1/2-1/2

A very long battle with chances on both sides

Bd 5  Buddy Morris - Ignacio Sainz  1-0

The Bud Man pulls out a victory late in the endgame

Bd 6  Todd Smith - Ed Baluran  1-0

Bd 7  Fawsi Murra Jr - Roger Dooc  1-0  I don't have this scoresheet, please email it to me

Bd 8  Fausto Robles - Chris Borgan  0-1  This was one of the more exciting games in this section, played by two young players with a bright future in chess.

Bye: Carey Milton   A very rare bye for Carey, he is almost always ready to play. I suspect even when on his deathbed Carey will be offering pawn odds to the doctors and piece odds to the nurses...or maybe odd pieces, whatever...

Reserve Championship

Bd 9  Vincent Broman - Marty Lower  1-0

Marty's weakness is time trouble issues and in this game he did end up losing on time.

Bd 10  Caley Anderson - Richard Jensen  1/2-1/2

A crazy endgame. I can't believe how complicated King and Pawn endgames can be, this one was a doozy!

Bd 11  Luis Castaneda - Jason Qu  1-0

Luis took advantage of an opening mistake, picked up a few pawns and flawlessly converted the win.

Bd 12  Shaun Sweitzer - William Wijaya  1-0

This was a crucial encounter, William has been struggling (only 1 win & 1 draw), now Shaun is back in it.

Bd 13  Pouyan Azarshahri - Roberto Aiello  0-1

Pouyan won the exchange, but then later gave it back inadvisably and lost to two connected passers on the 6th.

Bd 14  Hector Gonzalez - Eric Marquis  1-0

From a winning position, Eric makes a horrible miscalculation and allows a pawn to Queen (with checkmate too!)

Bd 15  Robert Samuel - Chuck Ensey  0-1

I should have lost in the opening, but Bob let me off the hook. I was able to finish with a nice Queen sac.

Bd 16  Joel Batchelor - William Murray  1-0

Bill had his chances here, he has been playing better than his score would indicate, giving each opponent difficult problems to solve and a tough game.

Lasker Open

Bd 17  Manuel Herrera - George Zeigler  1-0

George withdraws after this crushing defeat, he just hasn't been in his best form lately.

Bd 18  Lennart Mathe - Esteban Escobedo  1-0

Bd 19  Mario Amodeo - Thomas Fries  0-1

Bd 20  James Malowney - Jerry Soelberg  1-0

Bd 21  Ron Rezendes - Jamieson Pryor  1-0

Bd 22  Alfredo DeLeon - Ramin Sinaee  0-1

The Longest Game of the Night and a good one too, See Cyrus Annotates

Bd 23  Theron Pummer - Amando Malvar  0-1

Lasker Reserve

Bd 25  Robert Henderson - Fred Borges  1/2-1/2

Bd 26  Chris Creighton - Eric Castro  0-1

Bd 27  Anthony Harbone - Morgan Fox  1-0

Bd 28  Daniel Bagliazo - Steven Perry  1-0

Bd 29  Jeffrey Ledbetter - Julian Rodriguez  0-1

Bd 30  Kevin Oakes - Christian Garcia  1-0

Bd 31  Michael Ross - Jackie Egger  0-1

Bd 32  Tom Kuhn - Karen Kaufman  1/2-1/2

Bd 33  James Aranda - Mark Lawless  0-1

Bd 34  Monica Ness - David Hall  1-0

Bd 35  Pedro Guerro - Patrick Edwards  1-0
