Club Championship

Aeria, Baker & Funderburg tied for 1st place with 2 1/2 points each.

Bruno, Duesterwald & Humphrey hot on their heels with 2 points.  Still 4 more rounds to go!

Board 1  Marc Duesterwald - John Funderburg  1/2-1/2

Bd 5  Ignacio Sainz - Ed Baluran 1-0

Bd 6  Brad Salz - Fawsi Murra Jr  1F-0F

No show by Fawsi, he won't be paired next week unless we hear from him

Bd 7 Chris Borgan - Buddy Morris  0-1  I am having trouble reading Bud's scoresheet.

Bd 8  Fausto Robles - Arash Nahavandi  0-1   Arash filled in as a strong house player (rated 2004).

Bye: Ron Bruno

Reserve Championship

Broman grabs the lead with only perfect score (3). Anderson & Lower tied for Second Place with 2 1/2, Jensen, Castaneda and Qu trail with 2.

Bd 9  Richard Jensen - Vincent Broman  0-1

Bd 10  William Wijaya - Caley Anderson  0-1

A nice upset for Caley, who as one of the Class C players wasn't expected to win that many games, but here he is tied for Second Place and going for the gusto. William had a decent opening but later on let his guard down at a critical moment and Caley landed a haymaker for a TKO.

Bd 11  Pouyan Azarshari - Marty Lower  0-1

Bd 12  Roberto Aiello - Shaun Sweitzer  1/2-1/2

Shaun had this game won, but faltered right at the end, allowing Roberto's King access to the corner square and with a Bishop of the wrong color, his extra rook pawn was useless. See this tragedy unfold if you dare...

Bd 13  Chuck Ensey - Luis Castaneda  0-1

Chuck had the edge most of the game, but lost his way in the ending, a great victory for Luis who has become much stronger over the last year.

Bd 14  Jason Qu - Joel Batchelor  1-0

Thanks to Hai Qu for sending in this game. Joel did sac the exchange as I was speculating yesterday, but didn't get quite enough for it as Jason played accurately. There was a tricky draw claim possiblity near the end of the game that Joel missed, almost all players would have missed this one.

Bd 15  Hector Gonzalez - Amando Malvar 1F-0F Malvar was sick, but emailed me instead of calling in. But you can only email up until 4 PM on Wednesday, after that you must call the club, as I am no longer home.

Bd 16  William Murray - Robert Samuel  0-1

I can't read Bob's scoresheet which he admits is completely illegible.

Bye: Erik Marquis

Bd 19  Thomas Fries - Esteban Escobedo  0-1

Bd 23  Ramin Sinaee -  James Malowney  0-1
